West New York, NJ: Author Darius Myers has been on a mission over the last five years. He decided to turn his debut novel, The Publisher’s Dilemma: A Big City Tale of Privilege, Power & Murder into the first novel in a long series. He did so to follow the advice of the head of a small Publishing House and has turned the works into a long series of six well-received novels with the latest entry set for release in December.
` “I have a dear friend who ran a small publishing company. The first and most solid advice she offered was that I needed to write more than one book. ‘We don’t want one-hit wonders on our rosters; nor do bookstores,’ she said. ‘We want authors who can write multiple books, and thereby build followings and sell even more books.’ This was important guidance as I moved to writing full-time,” Myers explained.
It’s been five years now, and Myers is on a roll. He has published, independently, six novels in the Black Camelot series. And, he’s still plugging away. The seventh work, Black Camelot’s Choices, will be out at the end of this year. Choices was initially planned for release in September, but the author has put this latest installment on hold because he’s finally begun to embrace another side of the business.
“Between writing and family obligations, I hadn’t done much marketing except for getting my books reviewed by top trade reviewers, Kirkus Reviews and Midwest Book Reviews. I recently decided to hit the road a little, and meet booksellers and book buyers where they are - at their place of business for the booksellers and at book fairs with readers. It’s been a lot of fun getting out and about introducing myself to audiences. I intend on continuing through Q4 2025, and Q1 and Q2 of next year. Black Camelot’s Choices will be released on December 2nd.”
Strong Reception From Top Industry Trade Reviewers
The works have earned strong reviews from the industry’s top trade reviewers. Midwest Book Reviews calls Myers’ writing “masterfully scripted fiction.” Kirkus Reviews applauds the series and gives it two “Get It” recommendations, for book three, Black Camelot‘s Days of War, and book six, Black Camelot’s Assassins and Conspirators.
Kirkus Reviews’ senior editor, David Rapp, deemed Black Camelot “a long series worthy of special mention.” And the series was highlighted in Kirkus Reviews magazine’s 2025 Fall Book Preview as an “lively thriller series.”
A New Series Addition Each Year Since 2019
Myers has released one Black Camelot novel annually, beginning with The Publisher’s Dilemma in 2019. This year’s installment will provide the backstories of the Black Camelot heroine, Sammie Rivers, her mother and grandmother, and their family roots in Jim Crow-era North Carolina. Sammie’s mother, Betty Rivers, was a singer of promise as well as the obsession and eventual conquest of the detestable Cornwall Harris, the CEO and scion of the Harris Simmons publishing dynasty. Sammie’s grandmother, Cora Belle, was also a singer of great talent. Although her talent afforded her opportunities, Cora Belle never left the small town of Black Foot Trail, North Carolina. She did, however, support the wishes of her only child, Betty, to move to New York.
In book seven one of the series’ antagonists, the GOP presidential candidate and former senator, Digby Yates, has avoided two assassination attempts, and his power is growing. The failed attempts on his life have increased his popularity and led to a surge in support for his Presidential campaign. His democratic opponent, Senator Janet Bivens, is a member of the powerful secret society, the Guiding Force. Bivens is insistent that the Guiding Force’s private army, the Society of Protectors, protects Yates from being assassinated. In contrast, her 90-year-old grandfather, the former California Governor Hardwick Bivens, Sr., and Yates’s estranged wife, Flower Yates, want Digby dead, Hardwick because he is living vicariously through this granddaughter and knows this may be the last shot at the Presidency for the Bivens political dynasty, and Flower because Digby is responsible for the death of her beloved baby sister, Blaine.
Black Camelot’s Choices is not the final installment in the series. “This saga is not complete,” Myers says. “The Black Camelot crew are still not using their power to its fullest. They are being deliberate as well as have their own issues that they must resolve. I’m curious, even as the author, about all that might transpire as this series continues and about how it will end.”
Myers is beginning a book tour with a focus on Barnes & Noble bookstores across the Northeast. He is also available for live interviews on all formats.
The Black Camelot Series
The Black Camelot series follows the adventures of three media executives--all of whom are unwitting participants, and one a target, in a dramatic, scandal revealing, murder that takes place at the world's most powerful family-owned media company. Afterwards, the trio become the darlings of society and are named the city's royals (Black Camelots) by gossip reporters. It is a nickname that white supremacy groups don't take kindly too and mark them for death.
